errors

trying to do a late entry, but my program crashed as I was about 33% done. It's still frozen right now, and I can't figure out why, nor do I really want to figure it out right now. I'll have to draw double tomorrow or something, even if it means I need to do it in a sketchpad and take a picture of it.

shading practice

so, I decided I needed to try out a new blending technique for digital painting. I like it a lot, but it took me a while to figure it out. crazy! I give credit to my friend for showing this to me, but I forgot exactly how he did it, so I had to experiment a lot more than would have been necessary had I paid better attention in the first place.

dragon!

I like dragons. I like them a lot. so here is a picture of a dragon, I had a difficult time figuring out where the hind legs would go when I started it... but here it is anyway. you can find another drawing done during draw night on the drawnightgroup.blogspot.com blog. congratulations!

even if it's this bad.

so, even if the drawing is this bad, I've got to make deadline. so I'm posting it. I feel like a bad artist right now, but how am I supposed to get better if I won't show my work to the world? this is motivation to not suck this bad ever again. however, it is going to take time.

fantastic cow

so, the draw night trio got together tonight, because apparently once a week just isn't enough. :) we're all way excited about thursday, so much that we couldn't wait.

this is a portion of what I drew tonight. I enjoyed doing it, thinking it a sort of cattle for a fantasy world.

I totally forgot to save the .xcf file of this, so now all I have is the .jpg, which doesn't have the layers I want, and need.

well, this is a lot more lame because I have to start over tomorrow, sort of. blah.

garlic!

well, this isn't the greatest post, but at least I am not using a cop-out again. this is something I drew today, a few minutes ago, and it's not terrible. it's just a sketch though. I need to start doing more detail work though...

it's the end of the world as we know it.

well, I was kind of hoping the end of the world would happen, I didn't get anything new drawn today, and I need some sleep. so I just took a picture of one of the drawings I did on my mission.

I hope that you enjoy it even if it's not new.

and yes, I know that I am breaking my own rules. sorry about that.

I am NOT going to fall behind again! except possibly tomorrow, since I know that I have an 11+ hour shift and so forth... blah. I'll at least post something tomorrow that I drew while I was on my mission.

monkey

awesome! we had a draw night and I loved it! it was great to get to sit down and draw for a few hours... although I must admit I did do a bit of talking as well. I drew a monkey! I loved being able to get critiques and learn from other artists in the area.

we're actually going to be doing this draw night weekly, and it should be fun. it will be open to those who are interested, especially if we have met with you before the event. there will be a blog specifically devoted to this draw night, and it will be awesome!

sculpture

I'm really glad I was able to sculpt for the first time since I got home, but it is not finished yet, obviously. I am excited about it, and hope to continue working on it. it should be a little while before it's finished I am sure.

technical difficulties

sorry about not posting for a few days, blogger was in read-only mode, so I couldn't physically post my drawings. I learned in that time that I really am not good at perspective. so, that's something I need to work on. but, here's a picture to keep me satisfied. just random objects.

sci-fi

here's today's post! early even! it's sci-fi theme today... I tried doing some space ships and such, but I'm not the greatest at drawing inorganics... I guess I need to practice. so when I post some up, please don't make fun of me. constructive critisism is always welcome however.

I'm late for my cool today! I had a late night at work and haven't been home until now! I feel so terrible about that! I'll get to work fixing it ASAP!

today's rule was western... coming up with restrictions is probably the hardest part of my quest to "make something cool everyday". after the restrictions are in place, drawing is easy... relatively. It's enjoyable too! here it is!

do something cool, everyday

okay, so I was led by a friend (not using his name for privacy reasons) to a lecture about "filling the creative gap". it can be found here: http://psd.tutsplus.com/articles/theory/the-creative-gap/

so, I watched it, and it's helped me overcome my "I'm such a bad artist" syndrome. true, I'm not that great, but I won't get better if I dwell on it, so I'm making rules for myself. I'm going to make something cool everyday, taking the advice of the lecture... I am really excited for it, I'm happy that I can and will begin moving forward again.

so this is my entry for tonight.

this is inspired by something my brother said, inadvertently this night. I forget the circumstances, but someone mentioned their weight, while my brother was playing a game and without knowing what was happening, he blurted out "new hi score!". it tickled me.

so yeah, check up each night, I can't guarantee that they will be awesome, but I will be posting nightly.
